PREMISE
It was presented around 1950, but it seems that it was never
realized and that there is not even a technical description
that describes it in a more realistic way. Yet it appears in a
couple of catalogs of the French Hurricane, with the drawing
and the description that we report below.
Pure fantasy or did we miss something? Let's read
________
"HURRICANE MANDET" SELF- CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS
for the great underwater exploration
The Hurricane Mandet self-contained breathing apparatus is composed of three bottles containing 11 liters of compressed air at 200 bar and one valve regulator, a real artificial lung.
It is an open circuit, thus eliminating dive risks.
Two safety devices make any accident impossible: an easy-to-read watertight pressure gauge and a visual alert with the emission of bubbles 10 minutes before the air runs out.The device is made of duralumin, floating. Diver’s ballast is adjustable and secured by a patented system.
Diving times, considering the lung capacity of a standard man: 25 m/30 min - 50 m/17 min - 100 m/8 min
Hurricane Mandet self-contained breathing apparatus is never a hindrance to the diver; in fact, a patented device allows to get rid of the device in an instant.
Hurricane Mandet self-contained breathing apparatus is surely a progress compared to all previous models. Its special valve system eliminates the risk of diver’s air embolism caused by a sudden release of nitrogen dissolved in blood.
The volume required to cause hematosis is constantly proportionate to the diver's need, therefore the danger of asphyxiation does not exist.
Paralysis of lower limbs is not possible.
Hurricane Mandet self-contained breathing apparatus, real artificial lung, represents a a remarkable technical achievement.
