In 1938, Egidio and Nanni Cressi began producing manually the first diving spear fishing guns and the first masks: it was the beginning. The response was positive and, in 1943 they proposed a mask of considerable success that than, updated, stayed in their catalogue until the 70s: its name was “Sirena”, in black rubber and round glass.

The company was founded in 1953 by Sam Davison under The Davison Corporation, shortened in Dacor. It has been one of the five enterprises that began manufacturing scuba diving gear in USA to become famous: Healthways, U.S. Divers, Voit, Swimaster, Dacor.

Healthways has been one of the five first American companies manufacturing diving gear, together with Voit, U.S. Divers, Dacor and Swimaster, small artisan entities.

It was founded at the end of the ‘50s by Dick Klein, to whom the SCUBA acronym (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) is due; this term was covered by copyright and all its products included the word Scuba in their name.

In 1946, the important French company Air Liquide founds La Spirotechnique, appointed to produce the precursor of all automatic diving regulators as we intend today, the CG45 model, designed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and by Eng. Emile Gagnan.

Ludovico Mares was born in Istria in 1898 where he “invented” diving spear fishing since he as young, together with primordial equipment with which he dived, modifying and improving them, year after year.
